Dereje did his PhD in plant protection focusing on virus detection, viruselimination and generation of diseases-free planting materials at Norwegian University of Life Sciences, Norway. He used biological, serological and molecular detection methods to verify virus infecting plants. He is more interested in plant protection mainly plant virus related researches, pest managements, generating disease-free plants using mersitem tip culture and combined with other therapeutic methods.
