Chandra Prakash Kala did his Ph.D. in Forestry from the Forest Research Institute of DehraDun, India and has completed his M.Sc. in Botany from the H.N.B. Garhwal University, Uttarakhand. Some of his earlier associations were with the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehra Dun, the G.B. Pant Institute of Himalayan Environment and Development, Almora and the National Medicinal Plants Board, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, New Delhi.
He widely surveyed the various biogeographical areas for natural resource management, biodiversity conservation and sustainable development of medicinal and aromatic plants. The outcome of his decade long studies on the ecology and conservation of alpine meadows in the Valley of Flowers National Park is one the outstanding contributions to the science. He has published over 125 research papers and articles in various national and international journals. Besides, he has 4 books to his credit on the biodiversity conservation, ecosystem and environment management and sustainable development of medicinal plants. He is the founder Executive Editor of the International Journal - ‘Medicinal Plants’. He has chaired and delivered keynote lectures in many international and national seminars and conferences.
