Dr Sachin Gandotra has received his Diploma in Psychological Medicine (DPM) and MD (Psychiatry) from the Central Institute of Psychiatry in India affiliated with the Ranchi University, India. He served as a faculty in the Central Institute of Psychiatry before joining his current function as a Consultant Psychiatrist and Medical Director for The Mental Health Foundation in St Maarten in the Dutch Caribbean. His research has focused on several areas of contemporary psychiatry such as mood disorders, psychopharmacology, rehabilitation, consciousness, Alzheimer’s dementia and the like; however the main research interests are in the area of affective temperaments and bipolar spectrum disorders. He has authored several original research articles in reputable international peer reviewed journals and has served as independent reviewer for the journals such as Schizophrenia Research, BMC Biomed Central, International Journal of Medicine and Medical Sciences, and Journal of Metabolomics and Systems Biology. In a recent collaborative effort with the Department of Public Health, Social Welfare and Labor St Maarten, he has been instrumental in implementing the WHO AIMS Survey for the country St Maarten in the year 2013. The AIMS survey aims to assess the mental health systems within the country on different domains and forms a basis for the framework of the future mental health policy of the region. He is a Life fellow of the Indian Psychiatric Society and life member of the Indian epilepsy Association.
