The period around calving is of paramount importance with regard to the fertility and performance of the dairy cow. This phase often leads to a lack of energy due to high milk production, which leads to the increase of so-called ketone bodies in the blood. The associated disease is called subclinical ketosis (SCK) and is often recognized as too late or not at all due to the lack of clinical symptoms. The aim of our study is to investigate the period of this important and often underestimated metabolic disease. We are particularly interested in the related sequel, in particular the impairment of fertility and dairy performance.
