Han Wösten studied biology at the University of Groningen where he also received his PhD in 1994. After post-doctoral positions at the Universities of Munich and Groningen, he was appointed assistant professor in the Microbial Physiology group at the University of Groningen. Han Wösten was appointed full professor at the University of Utrecht in 2001. He is head of the Department of Biology since 2011 and the president of the Royal Dutch Society for Microbiology since 2009. Han Wösten was granted the STW PIONIER (900.000 €) in 2001 and received 3 research prices among which the STW Simon Stevin Meester prize 2008 (500.000 €).
Our group focusses on growth and development of filamentous fungi. In particular, the group focusses on heterogeneity in the vegetative mycelium and the formation of reproductive structures.
