Viral Infection in Pregnancy

Pregnancy affects every physiological system in human body. Changes in immune function and hormonal balance can make more vulnerable to infections and serious complications.Most common viral infections in pregnancy are chicken pox,cytomeglovirus,enterovirus,It includes hepatitis A,hepatitis b,coxsackie virus ,polio virus,these can cause wide spread infection of the central nervous system,skin ,heart and lungs .Chicken pox is caused by infection with the varicella zoster virus.If a women contracts the chicken pox in early pregnancy,the virus may cross the placental barrier and cause birth defects in the developing baby.These birth defects may include leg deformities,abnormalities of the retina in the eye,cell loss in the cerebral cortex of the brain and aproblem with the kidneys called hydronephrosis.Cytomeglovirus is the common infectious disease and it is transmitted through sexual intercourse.
