Biography

Dr. Sajid Alavi received his Ph.D. in Food Science with specialization in food engineering from Cornell University in 2002. He has a M.S. degree in Agricultural and Biological Engineering from Penn State University and B.S. degree in Agricultural Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology. Currently, he is working as Associate Professor in the Department of Grain Science and Industry at Kansas State University. He has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed research articles and book chapters. He is a member of the AACC International (the premier profession association of cereal scientists and processors worldwide), Institute of Food Technologists and American Institute of Chemical Engineering. In 2010, Dr. Alavi was awarded the Young Research Scientist Award by AACC International, a prestious honor bestowed on individuals under the age of 40 years for outstanding contributions to cereal science in basic and applied research.

Food engineering; Value-added processing of agricultural commodities and by-products; Extrusion processing of food and feed materials; Rheology; Food microstructure imaging; Structure - function relationships.
