Biography

Fatih Uckun completed his Doctor of Medicine and a PhD equivalent at the University of Heidelberg in Germany. Afterwards, Dr. Uckun went on to complete a postdoctoral research fellowship in immunology and a clinical fellowship in pediatric hematology, oncology, and bone marrow transplantation at the University of Minnesota, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He joined the faculty at the University of Minnesota as an Assistant Professor in 1986.

Dr. Uckun worked as an Associate Professor for the University of Minnesota’s Department of Therapeutic Radiology and received tenure in 1990. Dr. Uckun next became an Associate Professor of Pharmacology and a full Professor for the Therapeutic Radiology, Pediatrics and Pharmacology Departments within the University. He was the first recipient of Endowed Hughes Chair in Biotherapy at the University of Minnesota Academic Health Center and served as the Director of the Biotherapy Institute at the University of Minnesota.

Dr. Uckun accepted a position as the President and Director of Parker Hughes Institute in St. Paul, Minnesota, a role he would hold for the next 10 years. Currently, Dr. Uckun serves as an Adjunct Professor of Pediatrics for Selcuklu School of Medicine in Konya, Turkey, as well as a Professor of Research Pediatrics for the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, California. He leads a federally funded nanomedicine research program at the Childrens Center for Cancer and Blood Diseases of the Childrens Hospital Los Angeles.
