Dr. Rebecca Abergel holds a Ph.D. degree in chemistry from the University of California at Berkeley and is a Staff Scientist in the Chemical Sciences Division at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Dr. Abergel’s research program is dedicated to investigating and leveraging the coordination chemistry of f-¬elements in different biologically relevant systems and nuclear-related processes, with fundamental, therapeutic and environmental applications such as chelation, separation, and bioremediation of toxic metals, development of antimicrobial strategies targeting metal-¬acquisition systems, and design of advanced alpha-¬immuno therapeutic agents and lanthanide diagnostic agents. She leads a large collaborative effort on the development of new drug products for the treatment of populations contaminated with radionuclides. Dr. Abergel received a Young Investigator Award from the Cooley's Anemia Foundation in 2009, a Junior Faculty NCRP Award from the Radiation Research Society in 2013, an MIT Technology Review Innovators Under 35 Award for the French Edition in 2014, and an Early Career Award from the U.S. Department of Energy in 2014.
