Raymond graduated with 1st class Honours in Optometry from the University of Ulster in 1998 and became a GOC registered optometrist in 1999 after completing his pre-registration training at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital. Raymond worked in hospital and high street optometry before completing a PhD in 2005 under the supervision of Professor Roger Anderson and Dr Margarita Vidinova in visual psychophysics. He was appointed as a lecturer at the University of Ulster in 2006 and his research interests include human visual psychophysics and the ageing eye. He is now a lecturer at University of Ulster, UK.
