Biography
Claudio Nicolini was born in Udine, Italy. He received the doctoral degree in physics from the University of Padua, in 1967. After serving as Adjunct Professor at the University of Bari, he moved for 17 years to the United States , of which he became citizen since 1974, and was originally at Brown University, MIT, and BNL. He then moved to Temple University School of Medicine, Philadelphia, where after a period of intensive training and research in pathology he became Associate Professor of Pathology and then Professor and Chairman of the Biophysics in 1976. In 1985, he was called “ Chiara Fama” Professor and Chair of Biophysics at the University of Genoa, in Italy until 2012 , where he was successively Director of the Biophysics Institute, the Department of Biophiscal M&O Sciences and Technologies and the CIRSDNNOB-Nanoworld Institute (www.ibf.unige.it). From 1993 until now is Life President of the Fondazione Electronics Biotechnology Advanced-Nicolini (www.fondazioneelba-nicolini.org). and from 2004 until now of the Fondazione Piantoni. On 2008 has been elected as a Foreign Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences (http://www.ras.ru/win/db/show_per.asp?P=.id-60571.ln-ru) and on 25th January2010 has been elected Honoris Causa Professor of Biophysics and Nanobiotechnology at Moscow State University . He was Chief Editor of Cell Biophysics (USA) , Science and Technology Advisor to Italian Prime Minister Craxi, Member of the National Science and Technology Council upon Parliament election, Scientific Director Industrial Consortium CIREF, Founder and CTS President Technobiochip; President Polo National Bioelectronics , President Scientific Technological Park of Elba Island. On May 29 2008, has been elected in Moscow as a Foreign Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences for life, while on January 25 2010 in Moscow (Russian Federation) has been awarded the Professorship Honoris Causa at Moscow State University for Life. From 1 November 2010 until October 31 2012 has been Visiting Research Professor at Biodesign Institute Arizona State University (USA) , Visiting Scientist at European Synchrotron Radiation Facility in Grenoble and at New England Biolab in Ipswick , Visiting Research Professor at Curie Paris University. Presently is Life President of the Nanoworld Institute and of the Fondazione EL.B:A:(ELectronics Biotechnology Advanced) Nicolini having headquarters in Bergamo and many laboratories worldwide. Still now among the 100 Top Italian Scientists in all disciplines and times in the entire world (H index >30). He received several awards and prizes and has authored more than 500 publications in international scientific journals (SCI), 38 patents (WPI) , 29 books and Series Editor in Bioelectronics (Plenum) and Nanobiotechnology (Pan Stanford).
