Dr. Bimal Prasanna Mohanty (b. 1962) received M.V. Sc (Biochemistry) from the Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Izatnagar (1989) and Ph. D. in Biotechnology from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, during the period 1997-2001. Dr Mohanty obtained specialized training on Proteomics from the University of Aberdeen, UK under Biotechnology Overseas Associateship Award from the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. He is working as a Principal Scientist in the Agricultural Research Service under Indian Council of Agricultural Research and currently working at Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute (CIFRI), Barrackpore. His research interests include Biomarker discovery- Biomarkers of thermo tolerance, pollution biomarkers for aquatic environmental monitoring, Prognostic/diagnostic biomarkers for arsenicosis, Nutrition Biochemistry and nutrigenomics. As an administrator, he is presently the Head, Division of Fishery Resource and Environmental Management, CIFRI. He is a Fellow of the Zoological Society of India (ZSI), Hon. Fellow of the International Society for Ecological Communication (ISEC) and has received several awards and honours such as Prof. O. P. Odum gold medal from ISEC, Gold Medal from ZSI and National Academy of Agricultural Research Management, India. He is serving as a reviewer of several reputed journals like Parasite Immunology, Fish & Shellfish Immunology, Molecular Biology Report, Cell Stress & Chaperone, Acta Tropica, Indian Journal of Experimental Biology etc. He has authored more than 50 research articles and several book chapters. He is a member of many scientific academies and professional societies including the National Academy of Sciences India (NASI), British Society of Proteomics Research (BSPR), Proteomics Society- India (PSI), International Metabolomics Society, Zoological Society of India (ZSI), Society of Biological Chemists, India (SBC-I); Indian Immunology Society (IIS).
