Dr.Slifer is an Assistant Professor at the Hussman Institute for Human Genomics in the Dr. John T. MacDonald Foundation Department of Human Genetics at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine. He received his medical training at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and then completed a Psychiatry Residency at Duke University where he served as Chief Resident for the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. While at Duke, he studied the genetics of Alzheimer’s Disease and received his Ph. D. in Genetics. Dr. Slifer investigates the genetic diatheses underlying complex disorders in the elderly including Alzheimer’s Disease and late-life depression.
His research focuses on parsing the genetic contribution to disease and identifying clinical sub-types that might differentiate more genetically homogeneous groups within common heterogeneous disorders.
