Mr Papanikolaou qualified from the University of Ioannina Medical School, Greece in 1998. He started his Ophthalmology training in Greece and in 2006 he came to the UK to further his career within Ophthalmology. He completed his surgical training in Ophthalmology and progressed to the position of Senior Medical Retina Fellow at Addensbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge. After completing his fellowship and since 2011 he holds a substantive consultant post at North Middlesex University Hospital. He is also the Lead in Retina clinician of the department. He is conducting general ophthalmology clinics and dedicated sub-speciality clinics in retina. He is providing senior clinician services to ophthalmology clinical areas of General Ophthalmology, Medical Retina, Cataract and Glaucoma He is leading and supervising the Medical Retina Service and is responsible for the Unit’s Teaching Programme. He is undertaking supervision, teaching and training of junior ophthalmologists in cataract surgery. He has been responsible for the development and the provision of Age related Macular Degeneration (AMD) services at North Middlesex University Hospital.
