Biography
Dr Rafael Ríos got a degree in Medicine from the University of Córdoba (Spain) in 1985 and a degree in Hematology from University of Cantabria (Spain) in 1992. The internship period (1989-­‐1992) was developed at University Hospital Marqués de Valdecilla, Santander (Spain), a leader Spanish centre in bone marrow transplant. Since 1993, he worked as hematologist at Hospital Valle de los Pedroches, Pozoblanco, Córdoba (Spain) developing clinical and laboratory as well as epidemiology and statistics research skills. From 1996 to 2006 was member of the Andalusian Hematology Quality Control Committee. From 2003 to 2007 was hospital head of Hemovigilance. In February 2008, he got a Head of Section position at the University Hospital Virgen de las Nieves, Granada (Spain) where is currently working as Technical Director of the Hematology Laboratory and Head of the Monoclonal Gammopathies Unit. In 2010, he received his Masters in Advances and Research in Preventive Medicine and Public Health, from University of Granada (Spain). In 2012, he received his Expert degree in Epidemiology and Clinical Research, from Andalusian School of Public Health and University of Granada (Spain). He also dedicates a significant portion of his time to teaching as resident tutor. Dr Ríos is the author of more than 40 peer-­‐reviewed scientific publications and one book.
Research Interest
His current area of research interest is the study of monoclonal gammopathies, especially multiple myeloma, from a clinical, epidemiological and genomic point of view. He participates in the European IMMEnSE (International Multiple Myeloma Research) Consortium and in several Spanish PETHEMA clinical trials.
