Biography
Mary Geitona is an associate professor in economic analysis of social policy and health economics in the School of Social Policy at the University of Peloponnese. She was born in Athens and studied Political and Economic Sciences at the University of Athens. Her post-graduate studies include Health Service Administration at the National School of Public Health, Research Methodology at the University of Athens and Economic Analysis of Pharmaceutics and Medical Technology at the LSE. Her doctoral thesis on the funding of health services was successfully submitted to Athens University in 1992. She has been working with the Department of Health Economics of the National School of Public Health since 1989 and the Department of Economics of the University of Thessaly since 2009, where she played an active role in the educational and research work of both departments. She has had over 80 papers in peer-reviewed journals, presented over 200 papers at national and international conferences and has given over 120 lectures and training on health economic evaluation. Additionally, she has authored and co-authored 7 publications in the areas of health economics, health policy, pharmaceutical outcomes research and pharmacoeconomics. She is the founder of the Hellenic Society for Pharmacoeconomics (HELSPOR) and since 1990 is the President of HELSPOR and editor-in-Chief of the Greek journal “Pharmacoeconomia”. Additionally, she is the founder and the president of the Greek ISPOR Chapter. She was also member of the congress planning committee of 11th ISPOR European Conference taking place in Athens, in 2008, and co-chair in the ISPOR research review committee.
Research Interest
Her main interest is health technology assessment (HTA) and she is strongly involved in its implementation in the decision making in Greece.
