Joseph-Marie De Koninck

Joseph De Koninck received his master's degree in psychology from Laval University and his Ph.D. from the University of Manitoba in the same field (1973). He has taught psychology at the University of Ottawa since 1972. His research focuses on the study of sleep and dreams. He was a visiting professor / researcher at the University of Montpellier (1984-85), University of California in San Diego (1990-91), University of Arizona (winter 2005), University of Adelaide Australia University of Florence (Italy, autumn 2007). A Fellow of the Canadian Psychological Association, he became Honorary President in 1996-97. He was also President of the Canadian Sleep Society (CBS) from 1999 to 2002, and past President from 2002 to 2005. In 2002, he received the Adrien Pinard Award from the Quebec Society for Psychology Research and in 2013 the Researcher Award Of the Canadian Sleep Society. In 2007, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. He held several administrative positions including Director of the School of Psychology and Associate Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences from 1978 to 1987 and again in 1993 and 1994. He was also Dean of the School of Psychology Graduate and Postgraduate Studies from 1987 to 1990 and Dean of the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies from July 1994 to December 2004. During this period he held the position of Vice-President (1996), President (1997) and President (1998-1999) from the Canadian Association for Graduate Studies (ACES) and Chair of the Ontario Graduate Studies Council (2001-2002). He is currently Professor Emeritus at the School of Psychology and Visiting Professor at the Institute of Mental Health Research at the University of Ottawa (Royal).
