Deepak P Edward, M.D., is the Jonas S. Friedenwald Professor of Ophthalmology and a Professor of Pathology at the Wilmer Eye Institute and the Executive Medical Director at King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital (KKESH) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He has a wide range of research interests in the fields of ophthalmic education, glaucoma, ophthalmic pathology, biomarkers, cell biology and proteomics. His research has been funded by the American Glaucoma Society, AHAF, the Department of Defense and the National Eye Institute.
Dr. Edward obtained his medical degree from St. John’s Medical College in Bangalore India. He completed his ophthalmology residency and ophthalmic pathology fellowship at the University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary in Chicago and his glaucoma fellowship at Washington University School of Medicine, St Louis, MO. Prior to joining the Wilmer Eye Institute in 2011, he served on the faculty at the University of Illinois with appointments in the departments of ophthalmology, pathology, chemistry and mechanical engineering and was then chairman of ophthalmology and residency program director at Summa Health System in Akron, OH
