Christophe Valmaggia studied at the Universities of Lausanne and Zurich, where he 1990 be state examination. He then worked as an assistant physician in Grabs, Zurich and St. Gallen. At Kantonsspital St.Gallen, he worked in various management positions. In 1996 he acquired the specialist title for ophthalmology and ophthalmic surgery in 2000 to focus.
During a stay abroad in Amsterdam, he expanded his knowledge in surgery of retinal diseases. In 2007 he obtained the title of Executive MBA at the University of St. Gallen (HSG). Since 2011 he heads the Department of Ophthalmology at the Kantonsspital St. Gallen. 2014 he was appointed honorary professor at the University of Basel.
