Biography
Prof. Dr. Alexander Rice visited the Bundesoberstufenrealgymnasium in Bludenz and studied 1985 to 1991 at the University of Innsbruck Medical. While studying Rice worked in the transplant team of Prof. Raimund Margreiter, who performed the first heart transplant in Austria. In this time developed rice a unique model of lung transplantation. This earned him a professorship at the McGill University in Montreal, one of the then biggest centers for lung transplants. In 1994 he returned to Europe and continued his surgical training at the heart surgeon Bruno Reichard at the Ludwig-Maximilians University in Munich continued. From 1995 onwards, the rice specialized in Rainer Sundmacher at the University of Dusseldorf in eye surgery and ophthalmology and became familiar with the latest techniques in corneal transplantation. After completion of training received in 1999 Rice 2001 venia legendi and became a lecturer at the University of Dusseldorf. In the same year he settled as an ophthalmologist in the Principality of Liechtenstein and operated in the National Hospital in Liechtenstein. In 2002 he performed the first corneal transplant in Liechtenstein. In 2004 he was appointed by the Albert-Ludwigs University in Freiburg iB as Lecturer and received in 2008 the title "associate professor" of the Medical Faculty of the University of Freiburg.
