Research Interest

Albert Soloway’s research centers on Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT); rational design and evaluation of tumor-targeting organoboron compounds which can be used for treating non-operable malignant brain tumors by Neutron Capture Therapy. The objective is to use biochemical and physiological differences between tumor and normal brain to design boron-containing analogues of cellular building blocks which may emulate normal substrates and become incorporated into proliferating tumor cells. Ideally compounds should bind to or become incorporated into tumor DNA since this is the target for the capture reaction of 10B. The general classes of boron compounds that are being developed are nucleosides, polyamines and amino acids/peptides.
