Biography
Dr. Chen graduated Phi Beta Kappa and magna cum laude from Cornell University with an undergraduate degree in neurobiology and behavior, with distinctions in all subjects. There, she was honored as a Cornell Presidential Research Scholar and Howard Hughes Research Scholar. She obtained her M.D. at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), where she earned the additional honor of Thesis Distinction. She also completed her residency in ophthalmology at UCSF, one of the most prestigious programs in the United States. There, she was selected for the single highly sought-after glaucoma and anterior segment fellowship, during which she received training from some of the top specialists in the country. She is the first and only female fellowship-trained glaucoma and cataract specialist in the Las Vegas area. Dr. Chen has published several papers in peer-reviewed journals and has published chapters in a glaucoma textbook. She has also been invited to give presentations at national and international conferences. Dr. Chen has a special interest in international health; she has done research and clinical work in China, Saipan, India, Taiwan and Switzerland, where she worked on behalf of the World Health Organization. Dr. Chen specializes in the medical and surgical treatment of glaucoma and cataracts, including both traditional and new cutting-edge modalities for treatment. Since glaucoma is a chronic disease, she believes that it is especially important to involve the patient in managing his or her own condition and to “find what works” for each patient. Thanks to her superior residency training in comprehensive ophthalmology, Dr. Chen is also able to provide quality care to patients with a variety of other ocular conditions, including those due to diabetes, macular degeneration, optic nerve and/or visual field disorders, and inflammatory conditions of the eye, including dry eye. Dr. Chen is originally from Taiwan and is fluent in Mandarin and Taiwanese. Because of her interest in traveling, she is also conversant in medical Spanish. She enjoys swimming, creative writing, hiking and traveling during her free time.
