Research Interest

Lucia Nencioni research interests include 1. Study of the molecular mechanisms involved in the regulation of viral replication of DNA or RNA viruses and inthe host cell fate. 2. Study of new antiviral strategies aimed at inhibiting host cell functions, rather than viral functions, that are essential for replication of different viruses. 3. Study of the relationship between intra/extracellular redox state and viral infection: i) effects of viral infection on intracellular redox state; ii) role of intracellular redox state in controlling replication of different viruses; iii) evaluation of antiviral effect of compounds with antioxidant activity in in vitro and in vivo. 4. Identification and characterization of new natural or synthesized antiviral drugs. 5. Study of the autophagic processes activated during influenza virus infection and their role in the regulation of virus life-cycle and host cell response. 6. Study of the cooperation between different microorganisms in the pathogenesis of chronic diseases, including cystic fibrosis or inflammatory bowel diseases.
