I am PI of two research projects funded internally through the CTSC at Weill-Cornell College via a subcontract to me. In the most current one (funded at $90,000), I am conducting a randomized controlled trial (RCT) to assess the efficacy of community health workers (CHWs) in improving physiological measures, knowledge and health-promoting behaviors among Hispanic diabetics. Upon completing the study and publishing the findings, I will be one of the few researchers to examine both the efficacy of CHWs in providing diabetes education and the cost-effectiveness of CHWs in NYC.
