Dr.Munira Borhany

Biography

Dr. Munira Borhany has received M.C.P.S in Clinical Pathology (2001-2003) and F.C.P.S Haematology; MD from the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Pakistan (CPSP) during the period of 2002-2007 .She is currently working as an Assistant professor and Consultant Haematologist at National Institute of Blood Disease and bone Marrow Transplantation (NIBD & BMT) Karachi, Pakistan since 1st March 2008 to present. Also working as a Consultant Clinical Hematologist at Dr.Ziauddin Medical University Hospital Karachi, Pakistan from 1st November 2013 to present. Dr. Munira has been taking active part in the teaching activities of Junior Doctors, Haematology Residents, Nursing and Pharmacy Staff of NIBD & BMT to enhance their knowledge and skills in their respective fields. She is determined to hone the skills of medical professionals through different training programs, workshops and exposure to the most cutting edge technologies and tools. During her tenure, she has been quite instrumental in the teaching area and has been assigned various teaching tasks from time to time. Her teaching style, approach, dedication and willingness to reach the desired goals have all helped students / trainees to achieve higher results. Her research goals are characterization of Novel mutations in rare bleeding disorders, correlation of phenotype with genotype based on this research and training in Angelo Bianchi Bonomi center, at the University of Milan, Italy. She has received several awards and honors, such as: First Pakistani Recipient to obtain Reach the World Fellowship in Haemostasis & Thrombosis from International Society of Haemostasis & Thrombosis (ISTH) in 2011. She is the member of the Pakistan Society of Haematology (PSH), RTW member of the ISTH Society, Medical Advisory Board, Pakistan Haemophilia Patients’ welfare society; South Asian Association of Transfusion Medicine (SSBTM). She has authored many research articles and books/chapters in National and International level. She is a fellow of the ISTH. Dr.Munira Borhany is determinedly striving for improving patient care by capacity building in Hematology especially in Haemophilia care in Pakistan.
