Abstract :

The aim of this pilot study is to establish the correlation between the quality of life and the sexual self-concept of persons with motor disorders, as well as the difference between sexual self-esteem of persons with motor disturbances taking into account marital status. Twenty (20) respondents with motor disturbances, chronological age 21- 51 (AS=31.9 years) completed two online questionnaires: SF-36 Health Questionnaire and Questionnaire on Sexual and Parentally Self-Disorders of Persons with Motor Injury (PDSBE) (Taleporos and McCabe, 2002). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Spearman correlation coefficient and Mann Whitney U test. There are statistically significant differences between individuals who are single and married on the overall outcome of the PDSB questionnaire (p=0.041), and related persons having significantly better sexual and physical self-sufficiency. Also, persons who are in relationship considered themselves more attractive to people of the opposite sex (p=0.027). Given the lack of research related to the sexual self-esteem of people with motor disorders in Croatia, further research is needed in this area.
