Abstract :

Avulsion of permanent teeth is one of the most important topics in dental emergency. It is usually seen in children between 7 and 10 years of age. Upper anterior teeth are the most frequently affected teeth due to increased overjet and incompetent lips. Avulsion may involve a single tooth or multiple teeth. The success actually depends on those replanted cases on the extra-oral dry time and the storage medium. The condition of the PDL cells is also affected by the total extra-oral dry time and the storage medium. Long term prognosis of late replantation is poor due to pulp necrosis, periodontal necrosis, root resorption and possible infraocclusion. Despite these complications, delayed replantation of avulsed teeth may be a good alternative until that the child becomes ready for future implant which will aid in preservation of the alveolar bone, improve esthetic function and patient’s psychological status. To improve the prognosis of this type of treatment, efforts should be made to increase the public awareness about the acute dento-alveolar trauma management by education of children, teachers and parents about immediate management of avulsed teeth. Courses about the management of avulsed teeth in dental clinic should be arranged for the general dentists.
