Dr. William Cole graduated in medicine from the University of Melbourne in 1965. He completed his general surgical training in 1971 and orthopaedic training in 1974. He undertook fellowship training in pediatric orthopaedic surgery and genetics research at McGill University, Montreal from 1974 to 1976. On his return to the Royal Children’s Hospital and University of Melbourne in 1977, Dr. Cole set up a clinical practice in upper and lower limb reconstructive and tumor surgery and a research program in the genetics of skeletal development and disease. In 1992, he became the Director of Pediatric Orthopaedics at the Hospital for Sick Children and the University of Toronto. Dr. Cole continued in the same areas of clinical and research work. In 2009, he moved to his current position of Director of the Division of Pediatric Surgery, Department of Surgery, University of Alberta in Western Canada. Dr. Cole has worked for many years on several musculoskeletal Study Sections, Center for Scientific Review, National Institutes of Health, USA.
