Hisham S. Abou-Auda
Prof. Abou-Auda is the Professor of Clinical Pharmacy in the College of Pharmacy, King Saud University, Riyadh. He obtained his Ph.D. degree from the University of Minnesota, USA (Honor Graduate in both the B.S. and Ph.D. levels). He also received further formal training in the field of drug and poison information at the University of Minnesota Drug Information Center and Minnesota Regional Poison Control Center at St. Paul Ramsey medical Center in Minnesota, USA.
Prof. Abou-Auda is actively involved in different research and academic activities. He has participated in several clinical studies conducted in USA to investigate new pharmaceutical products to seek FDA approval before introduction to U.S. market. He has a vast experience in electronic data processing and computer sciences. He has developed several widely used computer software packages for pharmacokinetics, biostatistics and clinical pharmacy. He is also the author of three books about the Application of Computers in Medicine, Pharmacy, and Nursing" and two textbooks in “Pharmacokinetics”. He has also several other books encompassing various pharmacy and pharmacy-related disciplines.
He also collaborated with Dr. Rafiq R. Abou-Shaaban in the invention of two new antithyroid drugs "Abouthiouline" and "Abouthiouzine".
Prof. Abou-Auda is an active member of several professional and scientific associations including the Saudi Pharmaceutical Society (SPS), the American Association Of Pharmaceutical Sciences (AAPS), the American Pharmaceutical Association (APhA), the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP), and other well-renowned scientific associations. He is a member of the editorial board of the Saudi Pharmaceutical Journal and a referee of more than 10 scientific journals in USA and Europe. He is also a member of the board of KSU Translation Center, member of KSU strategic planning committee (Studies team) and member of AAFAQ project team (Higher education in Saudi Arabia for the next 25 years - Health sector).
His research interests are basic and clinical research in Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics, Prof. Abou-Auda has also conducted several research projects regarding community pharmacy and pharmaceutical services as an integral part of the drug information component of his research orientation. He studied the future of chain pharmacy in Saudi Arabia as well as the attitude of physicians and community pharmacists towards drug information centers. Another well-known project conducted by Prof. Abou-Auda included the extent of family consumption and wastage of medication in Saudi Arabia and four other Gulf States.
