    Application of Geographic Information System Technology for Conservation in New Zealand

    This research mainly studies the application of GIS technology in the conservation field of New Zealand from two aspects. First, the GIS data in the Auckland region is used for the analysis of deforestation and reforestation. The publicly available GIS data downloaded from New Zealand’s website can be effectively used for forest conservation application. This study analyzed the annual reports of the Department of Conservation (DOC), Land Information New Zealand (LINZ), and New Zealand GIS in Conservation (GiC) in the past five years. The findings show that although the three organizations have different directions in the application of GIS technology, GIS technology has been and is being applied to their conservation work to a tremendous extent by the three organizations.
