Biography

Dr. Merrill Singer is a medical anthropologist with a dual appointment in the Department of Anthropology and the Center for Health, Intervention and Prevention, University of Connecticut. He is also a professor in the Department of Community Medicine and Health Care at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. He is a prolific writer and best known for his research on substance abuse, HIV/AIDS, syndemics, health disparities, and minority health.

Research Interest

Medical anthropology, Biocultural Critical Medical Anthropology theory, syndemics, health disparities, drug abuse, AIDS, infectious diseases, violence, health and global warming, power and health, ethical issues in research.
