Prof Melnik has received his MD at the University of Münster in Germany working on lipoprotein metabolism. After his postdoctoral fellowship at the Cardiovascular Research Institute, School of Medicine, University of California San Francisco, he was trained in Dermatology at the University Clinics of Düsseldorf, where he focused on epidermal and sebaceous lipid metabolism. In 1998, he received the Felix-Hoppe-Seyler-Price of the German Society for Laboratory Medicine. Since 1991, Prof Melnik is Senior Lecturer at the Department of Dermatology, Environmental Medicine and Health Theory, University of Osnabrück, Germany. His major research interest is acne and the endocrine signaling function of milk and its relation to chronic diseases of civilization.
