Biography

 Dr. Clarence T. Chang held a M.S. and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from MIT. His work at NASA GRC included the first thermal and LDV flow mapping of a high-subsonic reacting hydrogen-air shear layer to examine the high-speed mixing process. He investigated the mixing properties of high-speed reacting lobed mixers. He investigated emissions reduction on the Rich burn-Quick mix-Lean burn (RQL) combustor and studied interactions of multi-cup RQL as well as provided the platform for advanced liner material testing. He performed the first SO3 measurement behind a jet engine to allow a glimpse of sulfur-products' affect on atmospheric chemistry. He provides combustion insights to the Glenn active combustion control team and is currently the team leader of Aviation Safety and Security Program's Fire Prevention Element, looking at more economical methods to provide full-time fuel tank inerting in conjunction with jet fuel reformulation as well as miniaturized gas sensors.
