Dr. Andres M Rubiano is a neurosurgeon devoted to clinical practice and research in trauma, emergency care, neurotrauma and critical care. He was graduated in Colombia as medical doctor and neurosurgeon but he was trained in neurotrauma and clinical research in United States. He was part of the Fogarty International Center trainees in collaboration between the University of Pittsburgh and the Universidad Del Valle in Colombia. He have been involved in trauma care research and advocacy working hand by hand with colleagues of international medical societies and as a member of the Trauma and Emergency Care Committee of the World Health Organization. He participate in several research projects with the aim of develop capacity building for trauma care in low and middle income settings. Since 2005 he have been working as medical educator with MEDITECH Foundation in Colombia training prehospital providers and emergency medicine physicians in advanced trauma care. He have been involved in recent projects with online virtual training for remote rural hospitals in the south area of Colombia and with the development of trauma training care for police nurses in austere environments. Last year he was Co-Investigator of the NIH Grant 1R21TW009332-01A1 and the study is actually ongoing. This year he was awarded with the national Grant 455-2012 for the development of the Colombian National Guidelines for Traumatic Brain Injury and the ASHOKA Social Entrepreneurship Colombian Award for Education on Health Care in austere environments.
