Shireesh Srivastava
Professor
DBT-ICGEB Center for Advanced Bioenergy Research
India
Biography Shireesh did his initial studies in India, with Masters in Biotechnology from Devi Ahilya University Indore and Master of Science (Engineering) from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. Following these, he went to USA where he earned his PhD in Chemical Engineering from Michigan State University under Prof. Christina Chan. His PhD work identified the mechanism of toxicity of saturated free fatty acids to human hepatoma cell line and generated methods for integrative analysis of metabolic flux analysis and transcriptomics data. He conducted postdoctoral research at the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, (NIAAA/NIH), Rockville, MD with Dr. Richard L. Veech. There, he designed metabolic studies for administration of a novel dietary additive. His work led to highest-ever reported blood ketone levels in mice and identification of ketone bodies as activator of brown fat. He has won Fellows Award for Research Excellence at NIH as well as Sigma Xi award for excellence in graduate studies. He is currently a Team Leader in the DBT-ICGEB Center for Advanced Bioenergy Research, International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), New Delhi, India. He has published 17 research papers in reputed journals and 5 book chapters and proceedings. His research interests are in the areas of metabolism, metabolic systems biology and integrative analysis of high throughput data to solve complex biomedical and biotechnological problems.
