Abstract :

Quality and credibility in cataract surgery at present stage comes after a long period with long gap. Starting from Indian surgeon Sushruta who identified 76 Ocular diseases particularly interested in cataract surgery in 800 BC. He introduced couching. Georg Joseph Beer, Baron Michael, Johan Baptist had remarkable skill at removing cataract and legalized the field. But credibility of this procedure was not up to the level. Samuel sharp 1st preformed successful Intra Capsular Cataract (ICCE) in 1733 by removing a cataractous lens with intact capsule through limbal incision. In 1747, 8th April significant advance come by doing Extra Capsular Cataract surgery (ECCE) by French Ophthalmologist Jacques Davel. As eye still remain Aphakik, desirable out come not yet achieved. Sir Nicholas Harold Lloyed Ridley, English ophthalmologist created intraocular lens by poly methyl metha acrylate in the year 1949. He succeeded in implanting intraocular lens in St. Thomas Hospital. Revolution comes and credibility in this field both from surgeon side as well as patient side was enhanced. The contemporary Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery (MSICS) technique most commonly employed in based on the method that rustle et all 1st described 1999, however in 1992 Blumenthol described a technique manual ECCE that served as a basic for later development MSICS. In 1967, Charles D Kelman introduced phacoemulsification via small incision where high volume cataract surgery performed. 1st sutureless, early post-operative recovery, day care has become the standard care in cataract surgery. The Femtosecond Laser Assisted Cataract Surgery (FLACS) was introduced in 2012 by American society of refractive and cataract surgery. This technique makes the surgery safer and credible to the surgeon. Current research holds the potential for restoring full vision including accommodation without the need for glasses. Quality in respect to procedure of cataract surgery, safety, compliance, avoidance of complications, post-operative outcome, cost effectiveness are important in the credibility of cataract surgery in favor of patient?s convenience. Quality of the surgery is directly proportional to surgeon?s confidence which depends on the development of the safe technique that comes with credibility to the patient sequentially.
