Abstract :

Proptosis in children age group is a difficult clinical challenge in diagnosis and management. This presentation will cover different causes and clinical examples of proptosis in children. Methods of investigations, orbital imaging and diagnosis will be discussed. For proper diagnosis of proptosis in children, we should consider the following clinical data: true or false proptosis, dysmorphic or non-dysmorphic proptosis, rapid or gradual onset proptosis, unilateral or bilateral proptosis and we should study the systemic condition of the child. Different clinical presentations of the common causes of proptosis in children will be presented with the management of these conditions. The presentation will also cover the surgical routes to explore the orbital cavity in children with focus on the features of paediatric orbital cavity and how this is different from the adult orbital cavity and orbital surgical spaces. Different types of orbitotomies in children will be illustrated with indications, techniques and clinical examples. Yassir.Abou-Rayyah@gosh.nhs.uk
