Introduction: The study was done to evaluate the response pattern of YAG PI in glaucoma patients, acute and chronic. Method: Records of 63 patients (age 51-82) who underwent YAG PI during a period of 13 months were reviewed. The gonioscopic opening of the angle, pattern of Intra Ocular Pressure (IOP) change and change of medication were analyzed. Results: Grade III opening of all or 3 quadrants occurred in 54 out of 110 (49%) eyes. Some opening compared to previous angle in 38% of eyes. No change in 13% of eyes. The proportion of eyes with IOP less than 21Hg mm to eyes with more than 22 before PI (treated or not) was 1.34: 1. At 2��? 4/52 post PI, this proportion didn��?t change much (1.58:1). At the last recorded review, (3/12 ��? to 12/12 after), it was 5.63:1. An IOP spike of 30 -54 was seen in 31 eyes between 2/52-6/12 28 out of 114 eyes (25%), achieved stable IOP with reduced or absent medication. 33% eyes needed to be kept on the same, 23% eyes needed step-up. Few opted to have IOL or trabeculectomy (8% eyes). 11% eyes remained untreated before and after PI. Conclusions: YAG PI was beneficial in these patients by opening the angle, and by lowering IOP. Reduction of medication was possible in a small proportion. Significant IOP spikes occurred even months after.
