Abstract :

Statement of the Problem: The experience of labor pain is lived by each woman in a different way. Internal factors such as previous experiences, degree of fear and anxiety are combined with external factors such as the health care received, family support during pregnancy and childbirth, accompaniment, as well as established cultural patterns. The combination of these internal and external factors will influence the way in which women in labor express pain. The feminization of migratory movements in recent years has meant that the services most in demand by migrant women are obstetric-gynecological services. The women attended often have many differences with the health personnel in terms of customs, language and traditions that can hinder delivery care. The purpose of this study is to create a collaborative network of research groups from different countries working on the ESVADOPA scale for the assessment of the expression of labor pain. Methodology & Theoretical Orientation: To internationalize the ESVADOPA scale by validating it in different languages. It is currently being validated in Turkish, Portuguese, Italian and Chinese. Simultaneous data collection has been organized in order to carry out a multicenter study of variables that condition coping with labor pain in different societies. Findings: pending the collection of data from all participating countries, it has been found that the expression of pain is influenced by culture, language barrier and accompaniment (Table 1). Conclusion & Significance: Knowledge of the external factors that influence the expression of labor pain is essential to provide quality health care. To this end, it would be necessary to extend the languages in which the ESVADOPA scale is being validated to include French.

Biography :

Silvia Navarro Prado has extensive teaching experience. Linked to the University of Granada since 1999, she has worked in this role at the Faculty of Health Sciences in Melilla. After her specialisation as a midwife and her experience in the healthcare field, she decided to design a tool to help midwives internationally. Her healthcare experience in a hospital with a high percentage of assistance to immigrant parturient awakened in her the need for this type of assessment in which the parturient would not have to intervene, the birth process would not be interfered with and the language barrier would not be a problem. Extensive management experience, having been Vice-Dean for 12 years and having served on numerous committees including quality, teaching and research.
