Objective: To describe the frequency of color vision defi ciency among Pakistani adults presenting for pre- employment health screening in a tertiary care hospital. Methods: Th e cross-sectional study was carried out at the Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi and the data was collected for color vision defi ciency, age, gender and job applied for from pre-employment examination during 2013-2014. IBM SPSS 20 was used for statistical analysis. Results: 3437 underwent pre-employment screening during 2013 and 2014, 1837 (53.44%) were males and 1600 (46.65%) females. Th e mean age was 29.01 (�?�?�?±6.53) years. A total of 0.9% (32/3437) persons had color vision defi ciency with male being 1.4% and female 0.4%. Conclusion: Color vision defi ciency was observed in 0.9% of candidates screened for pre-employment health check up in a tertiary care hospital. Th e color vision defi ciency was predominantly present in male individuals.
Dr. Shaukat Ali Chhipa has been associated with Aga Khan University Hospital since 2006 as Faculty and Consultant Ophthalmologist and currently on the post of Assistant Professor. He completed his MBBS from Sindh Medical College, Karachi, Pakistan in 1994, and did residency at Isra Postgraduate institute of Ophthalmology. He accomplished fellowship in Ophthalmology from college of physicians and surgeons, Pakistan in 2005. He is very much interested in education and proactive in increasing both his fund of knowledge as well as delivery of knowledge. Dr. Ali acquire health professions education diploma in 2013. The International council of ophthalmology (ICO) has awarded him fellowship in Glaucoma, completed from Hanusch Hospital, Vienna, Austria in 2015. He has been awarded (FACS) Fellowship of American College of Surgeons in 2016. Dr. Ali is eager to learn advance ophthalmology and for this he attended ESASO (European School for advance studies in ophthalmology) courses. On completion of advance courses he has been awarded with Diploma superior studies in Ophthalmology (DSSO) from Swiss university in June this year.
