Abstract :

Age related macular degeneration is a common disease affecting elderly people mostly in western countries .It is characterised by drusen macula and choroid neovascularization or geographic atrophy Epidemiology: Globally, AMD (Age related macular degeneration) ranked third as a cause of blindness after cataract and glaucoma. Most of the affected individuals live in the developed countries. In general, advanced AMD found is rarely before the age of 55, and most common in persons of 75 years and older. The prevalence of neovascular AMD and geographic atrophy appeared to vary in different ethnic and racial groups throughout the world. The prevalence of advanced AMD increased with each decade after the age of 50 with the highest prevalence occurred after the age of 80. Ocular manifestation include Dry age related Macular degeneration Dry eye and mouth 1. Oral ulcers 2. Geographic atrophy 3. Pigmentery alternation 4. Hypopigmentation 5. Macular atrophy Wet age related macular degeneration 1. Choroidal neovascularization 2. Sub RPE hemorrhage 3. Pigmented epithelial detachment 4. Subsequent permanent damage to central vision Cure of age related macular degeneration 1. Pluripotent stem cell transplantation into the eye can lead to cure of the age related macular degeneration. 2. Firstly cleaning of necrosed macula should be done than transplantation of stem cells should be done in the macula 3. Then stem cells divide leading to cure of it . Discussion: • Epidemiology Age related macular degeneration • Type of age related macular degeneration • Cure of age related macular degeneration Conclusion: Cure of age related macular degeneration was done through stem cell therapy. Keywords: choroidal neovascularization, geographic atrophy, age related macular degeneration
