Abstract :

Purpose:To report efficacy of corneal collagen crosslinking (CXL) with ultraviolet A -Riboflavin in severe infectious keratitis. Materials and methods: Six eyes with nonresponding corneal ulcer (4 with hypopyon), grade III (4), grade IV (2) were treated with CXL. All but one samples were sterile. Topical antimicrobials & cycloplegics were continued. Follow up was till 3 months. Results: All showed improved symptoms within 48-72 hours, hypopyon got completely resolved within 2-4 days. Reepithelisation was noted in all after 48 hours and was complete in 10 days but left with macular/leucomatous corneal opacity. Conclusion: Our initial experience with CXL in refractory corneal ulcer has shown that it is an effective tool for quick and complete healing, and can be undertaken in a right time much early to avoid impending perforations
