Research Interest

His research interest focus on development of vaccines and therapeutic measures for infectious diseases. He have developed Pichinde virus (PICV) as a vaccine vector platform and showed its efficacy against influenza virus infection through recombinant PICV virus expressing influenza genes. His other research interest involves identifying the novel host factors that are important for the replication and pathogenesis of Influenza viruses and could be targeted by antiviral drugs. He have identified TrkA (a receptor tyrosine kinase) as a promising candidate target and demonstrated therapeutic potential of TrkA inhibitors in both in-vitro cell culture and in vivo mouse models. During his postdoctoral work he became interested in arenaviruses and he have developed a guinea pig model using Pichinde virus (PICV) for the Lassa virus induced sensorineural hearing loss in humans. His Doctoral work was focused on evaluation of public water supply system and water purification devices for removal of enteric virus, thus ensuring availability of safe water to common public.
