Biography

Dr Dhandayuthapani is an Associate professor at the Department of Microbiology and Immunology The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio Texas USA DrPani got his PhD from University of Madras India Immediately after his PhD Dr Pani took up a scientist position at the worlds premier institute on leprosy The Central Leprosy Teaching and Research Institute CLTI Chengalpattu in Tamilnadu India to undertake research on the seroepidemiology of leprosy In 1991 he moved to National Institute of Leprosy Research NILR Tokyo Japan as a Science and Technology Agency Fellow where he studied cloning and characterization of Mycobacterium leprae antigenic genes Dr Pani then moved to The University Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio Texas in 1994 as a Postdoctoral Fellow to work on the oxidative stress response of Mycobacterium tuberculosis He later became an Assistant and Associate Professor in the department of Microbiology and Immunology of the same universityDrPanis research focuses mainly on the stress response of mycobacteria He has contributed immensely to the understanding of the pathogenesis of M tuberculosis particularly the role of antioxidants in the intracellular survival of this species and other related mycobacteria.

Research Interest

Dr. Panis research interests are oxidative stress response in mycobacteria, signal transduction and regulation of gene expression in mycobacteria and development of recombinant vaccines to mycobacterial diseases.
