Biography

He joined the Department of Life Sciences as a Senior Lecturer in Nutrition in 2008 from Aberystwyth University. Before that, he had worked in the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, King’s College London (2002-2007) and the Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Manchester (2000-2002) respectively. he was an Associate Professor in the Institute of Nutrition, Chinese Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (Chinese CDC, 1997-1999) and a Lecturer in Jiamusi Medical University (1990-1994). he had completed his PhD, MSc and MD at the Harbin Medical University in 1997, 1990, and 1987 respectively.

Research Interest

He had keen interest in human nutrition, also interest in functional food or natural products in prevention diseases. He had actively taken part in a £1m research project on zinc biomarker discovery (PI, Professor John Beattie, Aberdeen University) funded by the Ministry of Health, UK. He succeed and completed three grants on zinc nutrition supported by Chinese Natural Scientific Foundation or Chinese Ministry of Health. He had experienced research on the neuropeptides in treatment of Parkinson’s disease (funded by MRC), Ganoderma lucidium in treatment of epilepsy (funded by Chinese Natural Scientific Foundation), fatty acids in the prevention of colon cancer, nutrition in supporting of wound healing (funded by BBSRC and Wellcome Trust), weight management and diabetes, alcohol and fat on heart disease (funded by British Heart Foundation). The methods used are combined techniques of proteomics and metabolomics. He had been awarded five prizes for scientific research by Chinese Government or International Human Proteome Organization.
