Biography

Dr. Fekadu Abebe is a scientist at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo, Norway. He obtained his PhD in immunology from the Department of Immunology and Transfusion Medicine, Ulleval University Hopsital, University of Oslo. After completion of his PhD training, he was employed as a postdoctoral fellow at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo. He received his BSC (Biology) and MSc (Parasitology) from the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia. He has been a researcher and lecturer at Aklilu Lemma Institute of Pathobiology, Addis Ababa University for many years. Dr. Abebe`s work include plant molluscicide, epidemiology and immunology of schistosomiasis, with special emphasis on specific antibody responses and puberty-related hormones on Schistosoma mansoni worm load. Dr. Abebe`s group was the first to show the influence of dehydroepiandrosterone- sulphate (DHEAS) on Schistosoma mansoni worm load in humans. Currently, Dr. Abebe is engaged in tuberculosis research, including tuberculosis epidemiology, immunology and molecular genetics. He is leading major projects that deal with molecular genetics, epidemiology, immunodiagnosis, protective immune markers during Mycobacterium tuberculosis in human population. Dr. Abebe`s publications include cytokine profile during latent and progress tuberculosis; the Beijing genotype of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and the protective efficacy of BCG; serodiagnosis of tuberculosis; and the protective role antibody responses during Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection. Dr. Abebe`s main research interest is immunology of tuberculosis, including cell-mediated and antibody responses; immunodiagnosis, and vaccine immunology.

Research Interest

Dr. Abebe `s research interest include immune responses to infectious diseases, immunodiagnosis, and vaccine immunology, with especial emphasis on tuberculosis.
