After Dr. Guerrero-Plata received her undergraduate degree from Universidad Autonoma de Tamaulipas. in Reynosa, Mexico, she obtained her MS and PhD from Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico in Mexico City. Additional training at Imperial College London, U.K., followed. For her postdoctoral training she joined the University of Texas Medical Branch in the Child Health Research Center, Department of Pediatrics, where she also was a McLaughlin Fellow from 2002 through 2004. Her postdoctoral accomplishments were recognized by the American Association of Immunologists in 2006 with the AAI Trainee Achievement Award. Dr. Guerrero-Plata was appointed an instructor in the department upon the completion of her fellowship in October 2006, and became an assistant professor one year later. She moved in 2009 to the Louisiana State University at Baton Rouge where she continues her research program in viral immunology.
Dr. Guerrero-Plata’s research interests include innate immunity, cellular immunology, dendritic cells, viral pathogenesis and respiratory viruses.
