Ullrich Wullner

Biography

Ullrich Wullner is professor, doctor and deputy director of the Department of Neurology at the University Hospital in Bonn. The Neurobiology lab of Prof. Wullner investigates the etiology of Parkinson’s disease (PD) and related disorders. Along the research on polyglutamine diseases the lab identified the transcriptional repressor activity of ataxin3, the disease protein in SCA3, which is mediated by HDAC3. Epigenetics is a key research topic: a concealed promoter in the a-synuclein gene was found hypo methylated in PD and genome-scale methylation analysis of PD patients' brains and blood are ongoing.
