Biography
As a PhD graduate student at Meharry Medical College I have acquired and refined the following skill set: Tissue culture, mouse handling and tissue harvesting, western blotting, RT-PCR, flow cytometry on both animal and human samples, genotyping, lab management, written and oral communication skills. I utilized these skills to develop my thesis research project to determine if bortezomib, a therapeutic proteasome inhibiting drug, modulates cytokine production in a mouse breast cancer model. I also performed experiments in our lab's collaboration with the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group 6508 Clinical Trial. The results from this study will be submitted for publication upon the completion of this clinical trial. I have also fostered collaborations with multiple laboratories at Meharry that have resulted in the publication of 4 peer-reviewed manuscripts. From 2013 till the present I have further developed my communication and teaching skills by serving as a teaching assistant for the following medical school and graduate courses at Meharry: Medical Microbiology, Fundamentals in Immunology, and Principles of Infectious Diseases.
