Dr. J. Poongothai has obtained her PhD in Biotechnology Bharathiyar University, Coimbatore. She has over 11 years of teaching and research experience. She has published 5 international and 4 national papers in reputed journals.
My research interest focuses on genetics of human male infertility. I have worked on micro-deletions present in the long arm of Y chromosome. This deleted region includes the Azoospermia Factor (AZF) locus, located in the Yq11, which is divided into four recurrently deleted non-overlapping subregions designated as AZFa, AZFb, AZFc and AZFd. I am working on SNPs in autosomal genes responsible for this multifactorial disorder. My current research interest is on mitochondrial DNA mutations in diabetic male infertility and miRNAs in seminal plasma of infertile men.
